Overview

Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform founded in 2009 by Perry Chen, Charles Adler, and Yancey Strickler as a reward crowdfunding portal for creative projects in the United States. In 2015, it became a Public Benefit Corporation, which is a company whose bylaws pursue both profit and positive social impact.

It can be accessed from any country, and supporters can also contribute money from any state in the world.

Both companies and individuals can raise capital on Kickstarter to carry out creative projects: films, games, music, art, books, fashion, design and technology. The only type of raising available is the reward crowdfunding and is charged a success fee of 5% on the total amount raised plus transaction fees.

In our blog you will find an article with the tips for passing the selection to the entry of crowdfunding platforms, but in the case of Kickstarter there are no consistent barriers to entry, as in the case of all reward and donation crowdfunding platforms. One can independently upload a project as long as it does not fall under the list of prohibited products and does not involve illegal activities.

Discover the Kickstarter reviews on Trustpilot to check the first-hand experience of companies that have done a crowdfunding campaign on this platform and investors who have participated.

To choose the right crowdfunding platform for you and your project, it is important to understand the role of a crowdfunding platform for businesses and capital raising campaigns.
